The municipality
The municipality of Pollensa comprises the towns of Pollensa, the Port of Pollensa, Cala Sant Vicente and Formentor. It is set in the northernmost point of island, in the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range, Mallorca´s most extensive and valuable natural area. It is without a doubt one of the most emblematic parts of the island with spectacularly beautiful landscapes where the mountains merge with the sea, and its traditions, a result of its fascinating and intense history.
Pollensa highlights are the Calvario steps and the Roman Bridge, circa 1 AD which runs over the Torrente de Sant Jordi stream, the town´s Museum, the annual summer Music Festival hosted in the cloisters and numerous art exhibitions.
The Port of Pollensa has a long sea facing Pine Walk and wide sandy beaches.
Cala San Vicente is a collection of small bays with crystalline waters and golden sand set against the rocky backdrop of the Cavall Bernat mountain. Also worth visiting are the prehistoric caves of l'Alzineret.
The Formentor peninsula is presided over by one of the most emblematic lighthouses on the island and a key point of reference if arriving by sea from the north-northeast. The cape of Formentor lies at the northernmost point of Mallorca. There are various beaches here with spectacular turquoise waters: Cala Bòquer, Cala Figuera, Cala en Gossalba and Cala Murta, which draw some of the crowds away from Formentor, the largest beach of the peninsula, known also as Cala Pí de la Posada.
